At the time of this website’s publication, Dr. Mosunic is the only treatment provider in the United States with the combined professional credentials of licensed doctor of clinical psychology, licensed masters level registered dietitian, and certified diabetes educator.
Dr. Mosunic’s graduate education focused entirely upon treating overweight/obesity, eating disorders, and diabetes mellitus. He received his M.S. in Human Nutrition Sciences at the Tufts University School of Nutrition Science and Policy, one of the leading schools of nutrition in the world. At Tufts, Dr. Mosunic worked in the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging. Dr. Mosunic worked on various projects analyzing the dietary determinants of body fatness and intake, co-authoring a study entitled “An Underfeeding Study in Healthy Men and Women Provides Further Evidence of Impaired Regulation of Energy Expenditure in Old Age”, and receiving acknowledgement for his contributions on several other seminal works in the field of nutritional energy metabolism. At Tufts, Dr. Mosunic also worked at the New England Medical Center inpatient eating disorder unit, gaining clinical skills with patients suffering from severe anorexia and bulimia.
Following his M.S. at Tufts and work in the energy metabolism lab, Dr. Mosunic completed his dietetic internship at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans. New Orleans is unfortunately afflicted with one of the highest rates of obesity in the world. Dr. Mosunic worked intensely with the overweight population of New Orleans, which greatly enhanced his clinical weight management skills, and simultaneously served a population in great need. This was the final step of Dr. Mosunic’s professional nutritional training. He then successfully passed the registered dietitian examination and obtained the highest clinical nutrition credential of Registered Dietitian (R.D.).
After completing his training in nutrition, Dr. Mosunic attended the clinical psychology program at the Vanderbilt University School of Arts & Science, a program consistently ranked as one of the best doctoral level psychology programs in the United States. Dr. Mosunic underwent intensive training in cognitive behavioral counseling specifically designed to treat overweight/obesity, diabetes, and eating disorders in adults, as well as in children. He was trained by experts in cognitive behavioral therapy, the most state-of-the-art therapy shown to effectively assist children and adults undergoing problems with their eating and overall health.
While completing his doctorate at Vanderbilt, Dr. Mosunic attended Duke University Medical Center’s Clinical psychology internship, obtaining further expertise in counseling persons experiencing overweight/obesity, eating disorders, and diabetes. As part of his internship, Dr. Mosunic was placed at Structure House, a residential treatment center professionally affiliated with Duke that specializes in treating overweight/obesity and diabetes.
After completing his internship and becoming a doctor of clinical psychology, Dr. Mosunic joined the faculty at Duke as a clinical associate, with a primary placement at Structure House directing the psychological component of the diabetes/overweight program. Dr. Mosunic simultaneously received the credential of Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), demonstrating his expertise in diabetes as well as in eating disorders and overweight/obesity.
Originally from New York, Dr. Mosunic recognized the need for a specialist in weight/eating disorders and diabetes management in the NY metropolitan area. Dr. Mosunic left Duke in July of 2005 and has established a private treatment center in Bedford, NY, a small easily accessible town in Westchester.
In May 2007, Dr. Mosunic expanded his practice and opened an additional office in Stamford, Connecticut.In June 2008, he then opened the Greenwich office with Dr. Judith Goldberg, Dr. Alfred Padilla, and Dr. Felicia Mendhelson at 4 Dearfield Drive. In June 2009, Dr. Mosunic closed the Stamford office in preparation for taking a position as director of the Hackensack University Medical Center weight loss and diabetes program. He officialy began the director position on September 9th, 2009. Dr. Mosunic directs and participates in the HUMC comprehensive program from Monday through Thursday and practices in Greenwich solely on Fridays. |
